THE 2010 CENSUS IS NOW HIRING!!!!!

2010 Census Jobs

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting temporary, part-time census takers for the 2010 Census. These short-term jobs offer good pay, flexible hours, paid training, and reimbursement for authorized work-related expenses, such as mileage incurred while conducting census work. Best of all, census takers work right in their own communities.

Census taker jobs are excellent for people who want to work part-time, those who are between jobs, or just about anyone who wants to earn extra money while performing an important service for their community.

Home page for Jobs: http://2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs/

Local Offices: http://2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs/how-to-apply/local-office-map.php
You May Qualify to Be a Census Taker If:
You are able to read, write, and speak English.
You are a U.S. citizen.
You are a legal permanent resident, or non-citizen with an appropriate work visa, and you possess a bilingual skill for which there are no available qualified U.S. citizens.

You are at least 18 years old.
You have a valid social security number.
You take a written test of basic skills.
You have a valid driver's license.
You pass a background check.

You commit to four days of training. You will be paid for training days. Training can be held either during daytime hours or during evening and weekend hours.
If you are a male applicant born after 12/31/59, you must confirm that you are registered with the Selective Service System. For more information, please visit the Selective Service System's Web site at: http://www.sss.gov.

Bilingual speakers are encouraged to apply!

All census takers must be able to speak English, but people who have bilingual skills are needed in communities where a large number of residents primarily speak other languages. If you have the appropriate language skills and cultural knowledge to communicate well in your community, we encourage you to apply.
What does the employment test consist of?

The employment test consists of 28 multiple-choice questions designed to measure the basic skills and abilities required to perform a variety of census jobs. These include clerical skills, reading, number skills, interpreting information, evaluating alternatives, and organization skills. You will have 30 minutes to complete the test, and you may retake the test if you would like to improve your test score. If you wish to retake the test, you may do so on another day. You may only take the test once a day.

A practice test similar to the actual test is available at your Local Census Office, or it may be downloaded here.

What Are the Duties of a Census Taker?
Census takers usually work in their own communities, going door-to-door, conducting brief personal interviews with neighbors, helping them to complete their census questionnaire.

What will I do?

As a census taker, you will:
Locate households
Explain the purpose of the census
Conduct brief personal interviews with residents
Record responses on paper forms

What is the work schedule?

Work schedules for census takers typically include 20 to 40 hours of work per week. However, actual work hours per week and length of employment are subject to work availability, which is highly variable. A census taker's employment may end at any time due to lack of work. Also, you must be available to work when people are usually at home, such as in the evenings and on weekends.

APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS AVAILABLE FROM JAKKS STRATEGIC PHILANTHROPIC PARTNERS

Our philanthropic focus supports JAKKS™’ Strategic Philanthropic Partners, local community initiatives and causes that are important to our employees. The vast majority of our products are distributed through our Strategic Philanthropic Partners. Due to the high volume of requests, we have established donation criteria to allow JAKKS Cares to focus our resources to help the greatest number of children in need. Unfortunately, we are unable to allocate toys and resources to all organizations submitting a request for donations.

To be considered for a JAKKS Cares donation, a non-profit charitable organization must submit a completed on-line product donation request form. All donation requests will be subject to product availability as well as satisfaction of JAKKS Cares donation criteria.

We generally focus on the following charitable priorities:
Partnerships with non-profit organizations whose primary focus is helping needy children.
Non-profit organizations that aid families following natural disasters.
Holiday and back-to-school giving programs for needy children.
Animal Humane Societies and other animal-related charitable organizations.
Programs linked to our Strategic Philanthropic Partners.
In-kind donations where our products and expertise can be best utilized.

Donation requests are subject to the following restrictions:
Organizations receiving JAKKS Pacific® product donations from our Strategic Philanthropic Partners are ineligible for donations directly from JAKKS Pacific.
Lobbying, political organizations, and commercial businesses, as well as individual requests that directly benefit only one person, are ineligible.
The content of the JAKKS donation is dependent on JAKKS’ current product inventory available for donation.
Recipient may be responsible for product shipping costs or arranging for pick-up from our warehouse in Walnut, CA.

JERRY WEST IS COMING TO SAN BERNARDINO!!!

NBA Legend, Jerry West, To Visit Inland Empire
Discuss Youth & Mentoring
He was so impressive as a player his silhouette is used as the figure for the NBA emblem. He is the only player in NBA history to win the NBA finals Most Valuable Player even though being on the losing team. Inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1980, Jerry West is one of the top 50 greatest players to ever play the game.
As a general manager he was the architect of the 1980’s Lakers “showtime”, bringing together Magic Johnson, Kareem Abduhl Jabbar and James Worthy to become one of the winningest teams in NBA franchise history. In the 90’s he did it again by signing Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’neal to the Lakers to win three championships in a row.
And, now it's your turn to meet this NBA great as he speaks on the "Power of Mentoring" right here in the "IE." R.S.V.P. - ASAP!

LOCAL AUTHORS PLAN FOOD DRIVE FOR EAST VALLEY FAMILY SERVICES

PRESS RELEASE
September/26/2009
For Immediate Release
Contact:
Ni'cola Mitchell

LOCAL AUTHORS PLAN EVENT FOOD DRIVE FOR EAST VALLEY FAMILY SERVICES

Las Vegas, Nevada, August 26, 2009 - Authors Rekaya Gibson, Ni'cola Mitchell, and Andrionna Williams will be collecting food, reading and signing books at ReJAVAnate Coffee Lounge from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009, to benefit East Valley Family Services. This food pantry feeds over 3,000 families and senior citizens per month. All food and donations are greatly appreciated.

"I realized that I had to purge some things in my life in order to receive my new blessings," explained Rekaya Gibson as she holds her debut novel, THE FOOD TEMPTRESS. Her main character, Ambrosia, uses food to seduce men and it converts them into the perfect guy. The story takes place in New Orleans with recipes embedded in each short story. The Food Temptress serves up a delectable treat connected by Ambrosia's continuing quest for both romantic and culinary perfection.

Ms. Ni'cola Mitchell is the author of OVER AND OVER AGAIN. When Dionni begins to think she might have found "the one" for her, a devastating secret finds her world once again shaken. In addition, it finds her back in the arms of an unlikely man, and even more pain than even she could imagine. Over and Over Again is a funny and sensual tale that weaves between lies, love, and deceit and truth - teaching Dionni the ultimate meaning of what is honesty, passion, and friendship.

Ms. Williams is author of IN-LAWS FROM HELL. How many of you have been affected by meddling, trifling, and vicious in-laws? In your heart, you love the man or woman that you are with; however, their family and past is a bit too much to accept. One part of you wants to stay and the other part says run like hell! In-Laws from Hell can ruin a perfectly great relationship and they cause turmoil in your home.

1ST DIGITAL URBAN FILM FESTIVAL FEATURED BILL DUKES' "COVER"

CLICK PICTURES TO ENLARGE

THE 1ST “DIGITAL” FILM FESTIVAL FEATURED
BILL DUKES’ “COVER”

June 20th, 2009-Riverside, Ca. Lyfestyles Tv, a division of Urban Lyfestyles produced the 1st Digital Film Festival straight from a computer laptop through Terrance Coles of the Pan Africanist. Featured was Mr. Bill Dukes’ film “COVER” , Regina Kimbell “My Nappy Roots”, Spanky Jackson's Cadillac Dreamz and The Africa Channel.

Not only was history made through digital technology, but also was the 1st IE Urban Film Festival all taking place at the Ontario Mills AMC Theatre.

“Instead of watching the movie screen from a film projector, viewers watched in awe images sent directly from a laptop, states KimiRhochelle, producer of the Urban Film Festival.

Lyfestyles TV used this event to launch its Urban Global Digital Distribution Portal through the PanAfricanist African Diaspora VOD platform presented by Actor Mr. Richard Gant and Mr. Terrence Coles. “Now, producers and film festivals can trans-market their projects throughout the world at film festivals AND allow viewers to download their films digitally without even being present.. this is the first for the industry and we are very excited to be launching here!” states Actor Mr. Gant, owner of the PanAfricanist.

“Mr. Gant and myself have been working on this digital distribution, along with Mr. Terrence Cole for over a year and to now be able to have had it launch at our own film festival is such an honor, states KimiRhochelle.

The Urban Film Festival was part of the 1st Annual Juneteenth Celebrity Tri-Festival Weekend that included a celebrity golf tournament in Upland, a Sickle Cell Casino Night and of course the 1st IE Urban Film Festival at the Ontario Mills AMC Theatre. The goal is to raise awareness about Juneteenth and Sickle Cell as well as to raise funds for the Inland Sickle Cell office located in Riverside.

Stricken by the unforeseen death of the Sickle Cell office manager and co-producer of the Tri-Fest, Mr. Art Booker, the landmark annual event had to quickly maneuver and change locations of the casino night. “The sudden death of my dear friend took me off the scene for at least 2 days before the Tri-Fest, but thanks to so many individuals that rose to the occasion and my faith in God, the events were successful”, states KimiRhochelle. “In fact, many people were somewhat confused as to the new location and wanted to know where to send their donations so we have continued the fundraising campaign until the end of August and people can give a donation by going to www.urbanlyfestyles.com!”

The Urban Film Festival started with the viewing of featured films, followed by discussions and then a private dinner with Mr. Duke and other celebrity friends that came through..thanks to all..kimirhochelle 

June 7, 2009-Riverside, Ca. Lyfestyles Tv, a division of Urban Lyfestyles is proud to announce Mr. Bill Dukes’ film “COVER” as the feature film for the 1st IE Urban Film Festival taking place at the Ontario Mills AMC Theatre June 20th from 2pm – 6pm.

“Cover” is about a murdered on New Year's Eve and the prime suspect is Valerie Maas, a church-going home-maker whose life unravels when she discovers that her husband of 15 years has been leading a double life. Her strength of character and faith keeps the family alive as a deadly disease threatens to destroy all that they have known. “This film was chosen as the main feature because it deals with HIV, the Down Low syndrome and has a powerfully impacted message to all that watches and in particular..the urban community,” states KimiRhochelle, producer of the first urban film festival to occur in the inland empire.

Additional projects gracing the screen include:
Regina Kimbell “My Nappy Roots”, A Journey Through Black Hair-itage, an edutainment documentary, takes an unparalleled look at how black hair is used as a prism through which to look at cultural, societal, and political issues in the African American community over time. The film reveals the significance and pride of African hairstyles prior to the first arrival of enslaved Africans to America, where the broader struggle of Black people began. This cultural and social struggle created the rise of the first great Black entrepreneurs and the billion dollar ethnic hair care industry-that exist today.

Academy Award Nominated producer Spanky Jackson's Cadillac Dreamz features diverse genres representing relationships between fathers and sons and mothers and community-building relations that bond from core lifestyles straight from the streets. These raw images reveal powerful messages of how our own actions can change the directions for ourselves, our family, our children’s future.

ASU LAUNCH INTERNATIONAL SPORTS AVE. OF THE STARS

AMERICAN SPORTS UNIVERSITY TO LAUNCH THE
INTERNATIONAL SPORTS AVENUE OF STARS
Event to bring some of the world’s most venerable athletes and sports figures to downtown San Bernardino; Accepting nominations now

SAN BERNARDINO, CA, April 7 – American Sports University (ASU) will officially launch the International Sports Avenue of Stars (ISAS) next month. The University will be hosting a press conference on May 9, 2009 at the Historic Fox Theatre in downtown San Bernardino. The actual Inaugural Induction Ceremony and charity golf tournament will take place later in October.

The ISAS will recognize a life-long contribution of both public and peer appreciation, a tribute recognizing the individuals who have excelled within the sports industry. Inductees will be honored with a star, which will be embedded into the City’s sidewalks. Beginning in front of ASU, the sports tribute will continue to expand throughout downtown San Bernardino each year as more individuals are honored annually.

"I am excited by the project proposed by the American Sports University," said Mayor Patrick Morris of San Bernardino. “The idea of celebrating and honoring individuals that have left a lasting impact on the sports industry would be of significant benefit for both American Sports University and our City. We look forward to working with ASU on this opportunity."

“This project will generate a new sense of civic and cultural pride as well as promote this city as an international destination for tourism and sports excellence. The creation of the ISAS will play a vital role in the continued planning and development of the downtown area,” said Vice Chair Josie Gonzales, Fifth District Supervisor. “As people travel here from all over the state, country and world, they will have the opportunity to visit the International Sports Avenue of Stars.”

Unlike other monuments, the ISAS is not limited to one country or one field. Instead, the ISAS will include any individual who has had a broad impact on the world of sports, American or otherwise. Thus, coaches, broadcasters, and other sports groups are eligible for nomination. For each Inductee memorialized in the ISAS, a student scholarship will be awarded in his or her name.

While the International Sports Avenue of Stars is primarily intended to celebrate the achievements of Inductees and promote education, ASU will also use sponsorship money and funds raised to construct a new Special Olympics training facility. “It is our duty to support the needs of all athletes,” said Dr. Harry Hwang, Founder of the University.

The ISAS Committee is currently accepting nominations from the public. The submission deadline is June 1, 2009. Currently, some potential names for induction include Magic Johnson, Oscar de la Hoya, Tiger Woods, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky, Billie Jean King, Muhammad Ali, Yao Ming, Babe Ruth, and many others.

American Sports University is the only four-year university in the nation dedicated to preparing those students who are interested in the sports industry. A 501(c)(3) non-profit institution, ASU is committed to providing a healthy educational and athletic environment for students while playing an active role in the revitalization and development of San Bernardino.

We also provide networking opportunities to show small businesses how to get in the door with utility companies.”

California State Agencies are under Executive Order to conduct 25 percent of their procurement and contracts with small businesses and 3 percent with Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Enterprises. LEVI STUBBS OF THE FOUR TOPS DIES @ 72

DETROIT (Billboard) - Arguably the most powerful voice in Motown's storied history has been silenced. Four Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs Jr. died Friday at his home in Detroit after a long series of health problems, including cancer and a stroke, that forced him to stop performing in 2000. He was 72.

Funeral arrangements were pending for Stubbs, who is survived by Clineice, his wife of 48 years, and five children.

"He had one of the most prolific and identifiably voices in American history," the Motown Alumni Association's Billy J. Wilson told Billboard.com. "It's a deep loss, to the entire Motown family and to the world."

Stubbs' death leaves Abdul "Duke" Fakir as the Tops' only living member from the original quartet, which formed in 1954 as the Four Aims and signed with Motown nine years later. Laurence Payton passed away in 1997, and Renaldo "Obie" Benson died in 2005.

Fakir continues to lead a version of the Tops that includes Payton's son Roquel, former Temptations member Theo Peoples and Motown veteran Ronnie McNeir.

Stubbs -- born Levi Stubbles in Detroit -- gave voice to enduring hits such as "Baby I Need Your Loving," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)," "Reach Out I'll Be There" and "Brenadette." The Tops have sold more than 50 million records and racked up 45 chart hits for the Motown, ABC Dunhill, Arista and Casablanca labels, and the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

Stubbs also provided the voice of Audrey II, the man-eating plant in the film version of the musical "Little Shop of Horrors" in 1986, and of Mother Brain in the 1989 animated TV series "Captain N: The Game Master."

Stubbs' last public appearance with the group was at the group's 50th anniversary concert July 28, 2004, at Detroit's Music Hall Center.
